The Good Lab focuses on the intestinal mucosal immune response involved in the development of a gastrointestinal disease affecting premature babies called necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC).

Specifically, we are interested in:

  • Determining the components of breast milk that are protective against NEC
  • Understanding the signaling pathways that are involved in NEC development
  • Evaluating infants’ biological signature and genetic susceptibility to predict the infants at risk for NEC

Our goal is to apply this knowledge to design novel preventative strategies for infants at high risk for NEC development.
